Andrew Kudless

My work explores the material processes and systems of life. I understand art, design, and architecture to be part of a larger body of material formation linked to biologic, geologic, and computational bodies. All things have a form and this form has been grown, manufactured, and evolved over time in constant dialog with forces in the environment. I seek to design spaces and material systems that have a strong integration between form, fabrication, and performance. That is, the geometry of my work is closely tied to its making and its cultural and physical performance. I move back and forth between traditional ways of making and newer digital techniques that allow for a dynamic exchange between the generative design, simulation, and fabrication of objects and spaces. Trained as an architect, my work spans across many scales and levels of complexity. From the design of industrial products to installation art to designs for buildings, cities, and landscapes, my work investigates the emergence of order, sophistication, and beauty in natural and man-made systems.
