The flagship exhibition of Lille 3000, Renaissance, proposes to give a smile to the visitors of the Palais des Beaux-Art through 120 works, in a great diversity of eras and genres but around a single theme: the joy of living.
"Wherever there is joy, there is creation: the richer is creation, the deeper is joy." This quotation from Bergson sets the tone for this exhibition which explores all the good reasons to be happy and shows how artists have attempted to convey the message from antiquity to the present day.
Welcomed by the immense rays of sunshine of Mark Hanforth, the visitor can then let himself go to share the village festivals of Brueghel, take time to contemplate a sunrise of Roy Lichtenstein, dance with a Nana of Niki de Saint Phalle or Still running on the beach with two women with the complicity of Picasso ...
